eL UmbLiGiTo dE La SeMaNa~~wEdNeSdAy

So I guess we say hump day, because it is the middle of the week right? Well in Spanish you would say "el umbligito de la semana". Translated means "the little belly button of the week". So I guess they call it that because it is the middle of the week right? Not a whole lot new. Emili was very insistent on wearing a skirt to school today, so it was a snow pants day. I made her wear her snow pants today. It was chilly this morning and it looks like it will be cold again tomorrow. Megan is home tonight and Emili was happy to see her and her boyfriend Scott. I am feeling better and almost back to normal. We have a busy weekend ahead so I have to make sure that I am feeling up to it. We have my companies Holiday Party this weekend. Emili loves to go to this party. It is for all of the WI Quad Graphics employees and their families. It is always fun. Lots of food and drink and all kinds of entertainment. Best of all Emili always has her picture taken with Santa and gets a present! Stay tuned for Holiday Party photos.

Today sucked. I am still sick with a sore throat and body aches. I didn't go anywhere today. It was resting and pushing the fluids. I still don't feel the greatest, but it is back 2 the grind tomorrow. Emili didn't go to school today either. She supposedly didn't feel well either, but had no problem playing with her friends this pm at home.

geTtING SiCk~ eNfERmANdOmE

I knew it yesterday on Friday, but didn't want to admit it! That is why I was so tired. Yep, getting sick. I have a sore throat and body aches and a slight cough... great. It has been a while since I have been sick and working in the medical clinic never helps. I went to bed last night with a sore throat and dreamt all night that I was eating hot things that were burning my throat. At least it is to the point that I can still sleep. It is a good thing that I have off today. Stuff to do around here, but at least I can take my time. Looks like it it going to be a movie day for Emili or she can help clean. Hopefully she won't get sick too!

Si, me estoy enfermando.

Yesterday seemed like the longest day of my life. Remind me never to work the day after a holiday. I think I am going to ask for next year off now! After Thanksgiving day at Grandma's we came home. Thanksgiving was really nice. It was a lot of eating and watching movies. We watched one of my mother's favorite movies. Now it is mine too. It is a movie from the early nineties called "What about Bob?" Here is a link about it. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend renting it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/What_About_Bob%3F

We had our first snow and Emili has already gone sledding. Thanksgiving day she and her friend Hope we out early in the am and sledding. Emili was all worn out yesterday. I went to work early and Emili was off to Quad Care. After work we came home and Emili and I were sleeping at 7pm! We were both tuckered out. Today it is housework and then off to Milwaukee in the pm to visit Emili's Dad for a little while. He leaves for Mexico tomorrow and probably won't be back until after the new year. Emili wrote a very nice letter to her grandma in Mexico and we hope that she will like it. That is all 4 now. We are off 2 Milwaukee!

bAck In U.S~ ReGrESaNdO a Los eU

My sister came back from Japan and last night we did the all American thing! We went out to eat at an all you can eat buffet. It was so good. Megan (my sister) was not happy to be back in the U.S. and back to reality. We did however enjoy the all American Buffet. Tomorrow, we celebrate yet another American tradition. Thanksgiving.

Manana celebraremos otro tradicion americano. El dia de accion de gracias.

Happy Thanksgiving.

May your stuffing be tasty. May your turkey be plump. May your potatoes 'n gravy have nary a lump. May your yams be delicious. May your pies take the prize. May your Thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs.
MAY YOU ALL HAVE A BLESSED THANKSGIVING!

tHe MeLtiNG PoT

Friday was a busy day for us. When I came home from work, I had to run around getting ready for Emili to go to "Kids Night Out" sponsored by the Lomira school district. She was apprehensive about going because she said that she wouldn't know anyone. On the car ride there, she said that she wanted me to stay and hang out with her (in case she didn't know anyone). As soon as we arrived Emili was greeted by her friends and off she ran.... she didn't even say goodbye. Then my friend Pablo came over and we visited for a while until I went and picked up Emili. Then it was off to Mayville to tell Grandma about how much fun she had. Finally we came home and hit the hay.

This morning we were up early and headed to Milwaukee. Today was an eventful day in the life of Emili. I hope that she remembers how important this day is. Today Emili's father took the oath to become a U.S citizen. We had to be in Milwaukee very early and then we attended a "folk fair" afterward. There were 376 applicants that became U.S citizens in Milwaukee, WI today. As the judge was making his speak he named off all 70 countries that the applicants were from and welcomed everyone to this great country and to the growing "melting pot" that we call the U.S. When the judge said "Mexico" he said lets see a hand from all the Mexican-Americans that we have here today. Emili's hand was first to go up!!! She raised it proud and when I looked at her she said "what??, I am half Mexican you know". Here is a link to a great article that I found online regarding the "Melting pot".
Pictures from the ceremony to be seen soon!! http://www.manhattan-institute.org/meltingpot/

LiFe Is LiKe a BoOgEr/ La ViDA eS cOmO un MoCo

This is one of my favorite sayings....
“la vida es como un moco : intragable, dura y a veces no te deja respirar
Translated into English it means " Life is like a booger : unswalloable, hard and sometimes it doesn't let you breath".

Meaning.... Life is hard to swallow and sometimes you feel like you are drowning or like you can't breath.

I say suck it up and keep going. Life has been busy for the last couple of days. My apologies for not blogging for the last couple of days. Tuesday night, I was off to Milwaukee to pick up Emili's dad and then we came back. We arrived back here late and it was off early to work for me on Wednesday. Emili had a late start and her dad watched her on Wednesday morning. When I came home on Tues night at 10:30 I found my washer half way across the room and totally unbalanced. I had to call the repair man and come home on my lunch break so he could fix it. Supposedly it is fixed again, we will see if I have to call again. Wed night it was back to Milwaukee to drop off Emili's dad. We went out to eat and shopped a little. It was fun. We dropped him off and back home we went.

We arrived home late once again to find one my fish dead again. I wondered what was going on because since Sunday. 3 have died. I hopefully have found the solution. This morning when I woke up they were covered in white spots and were not looking so hot. So I think that is what is going on. http://freshaquarium.about.com/cs/disease/p/ich.htm
It is called Ich a bacterial infection. So after work, I had to do more driving. I went to Mayville to visit my mom at her yarn shop. http://looseendsyarnshop.com/
and I had to go to the local drug store and luckliy they sold something to combat it. I hope they will get better. I don't want anymore to die off. I am going back to Milwaukee Sat morning to visit some more friends. I am looking forward to going to bed early tonight. Sleep helps with "congestion" of everyday life. On that note, I am hitting the sack!

Back to work today. It was a ok Monday. I was very busy at work and hardly had time to eat. When I got out of work, I ran a couple of errands and then it was to my mom's to pick up Emili. She was having fun at Grandma's as usual. We were on our way home and decided to stop by to visit my friend Sanjuana and her new puppy "Zoey". We took Zoey for a walk and caught up on gossip. My neighbor called me today to let me know that her daughter was ill. Emili is the only one in the group of her little friends that hasn't had a stomach bug and I am hoping that it will stay that way. Here are some pics of us at my moms tonight. Tomorrow I am going back to Milwaukee to visit some friends and to pick up Emili's dad. He is going to spend some time with her on Wednesday. That is all for today

Not a whole lot new. Just chilling out at home. Emili and her friend were up at 5:30 am Saturday morning ready to play. They pretty much played all day long. They had fun. It was in and out of the house all day. So finally I said "if your going to come in your going to stay in and if you are going out you are going to stay out". OMG~ I sounded just like my mother. So they decided they wanted to play outside and I locked the door and told them if they were going to stay out they had to stay out for at least 30 min and not this in and out stuff. Finally Emili knocked on the door and screamed "Mom, open the door, it is an EMERGENCY, I have to pee"..... So then I opened the door back up. I spent most of they day going through Emili's toys and cleaning her room. Emili was so tired last night, she fell asleep sitting up on the couch. When I told her to go to bed she said "I am not tired." I waited until she was really sleeping good and woke her up and told her to get to bed. This morning is a lot of hanging out and then it is off to my Grandparent's farm in the afternoon to visit and eat supper. As Emili says "Mom, the farm is (open) we can go today". Hasta manana.......

It is that time of the year again. As we enter into flu season, I become busier and busier. Every year around this time I end up translating flu cases. If you haven't gotten the influenza vaccination yet this year, please do. It is not fun at all. This is coming from the voice of experience. I had the flu only once, but will never forget how I felt. The chills, fever, vomiting and body aches. Emili's little friend was over tonight and she said that she didn't feel well and that she was cold. I took her temp and rubbed her little belly because she said that it was hurting. She laid down and after a little nap, she woke up vomiting and with a fever. Her dad came to pick her up and hopefully she will be over it in a couple of days and it isn't the flu.

Here are some interesting facts about the flu.
http://www.flufacts.com/

My sister is having fun in Japan. I am ready for the weekend to start. I can't wait to sleep in tomorrow. 8 am is sounding really nice right now!!!! Emili's other friend is spending the night and they are giggling and want me to get off the computer, so they can use it to do their Webkins. http://www.webkinz.com/
Webkins are virtual pets that you can play with daily. Emili got her first report card today and it was a good report. 1st quarter is over. ok ok i am getting off so they can do their Webkins.

If you are reading this please see my blog entry before this one. It really makes you stop and think about life and look at it a little different. I really took this to heart this morning. I was driving Emili to my mom's house because she had a late start and I watched all the kids walking/running into school ready to start the day. It made me think about how grateful I am to have Emili growing up in a small town. All the little kids were walking to school without parents and playing with their friends on the way.

I am taking time out at 11:00 pm. After a long hard day. I was up at 5:30am and I am taking the time to let you know that you are important to me. Even if you are reading this and you don't know me, know that you make a difference in this world. We all have our purposes on this earth (to be determined). .........Destiny takes you as far as you let it! Love you. Hope you have a great day and don't forget to let the ones that you love know how important they are to you.

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways ,but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness. We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life. We've added years to life not life to years. We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We've done larger things, but not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less. These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes. These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill. It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete... Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent. Remember, to say, "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.AND ALWAYS REMEMBER:Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

Ah, Monday... fun fun. Today it was back to the grind after a long 3 day weekend. Emili was off to school and I to work. I am getting home late tonight yet once again. Today was the last of a 12 week course of some classes that I was taking. Glad I am done with that until January. Even though I complain about the long hours, it is nice to be in Lomira. Even though I miss emailing Pizza Hut and having pizza delivery at a touch of a button, and not having Starbucks for the last 4 months..... There is a positive side to knowing that I am raising my child in a small town.
Emili was so proud that she was a Burbank Bear last year at this time. I couldn't be prouder that she is a Lomira Lion this year. After reading this article, I was even more pleased with the move that we made. So, I guess this 4 year old decided to take pot to show and tell!!!! http://http//www.wisn.com/news/14493405/detail.html

Go Lomira Lions!
It was freezing today when I got out of work and we had our first snowfall. Emili is always happy to see the snow. Lots of sledding and chicken soup. I can't wait for Emili to experience winter in Lomira! Here we are ready for the snow!

This weekend was really nice. Thursday night, Megan, Emili and I went out to eat and decided to pay a visit to my mom before Megan left for Japan. When we got to my mom's house, she pulled out her video camera from 1986. It was gigantic, one of the first models made. We watched videos of our 10th birthday party sleepover and from other holidays. It was weird to watch the videos from and adult standpoint. We were really, really annoying! It was cool for Emili to see what everyone she knows looked like 20 years earlier.

It is getting colder, and I am starting to hibernate! Lots of staying in and lots of stuff to do. Friday was nice. I woke up early to see Megan off to Japan and to take Emili to school. She had a half a day of school so I went to pick her up. When we came home I babysat for the downstairs neighbors little girls. They were so cute. Emili then played with the girls from the neighborhood and then it was overnight at Grandma's for her. I had a friend come up from Milwaukee and we went out in Fondulac.

I was up early to go pick up Emili on Sat. and to taste Grandpa's pancakes! Yum. I arrived just in time, Grandpa had just mixed the batter and was getting ready to make his famous cakes. We went home for a great day of Nothing... It was nice. We watched a lot of movies and Emili was bummed out because her friends weren't around to play.

Sunday was nice too. I had to go shopping and get Emili some snow pants before the "snow flys". Emili didn't want to go shopping with me, because she knows that I take forever and always end up buying things that I didn't originally have planned. I dropped her off at Grandma's house and went shopping by myself. It was nice to shop in peace, but at the same time, Emili saves me money because I can't take the time to look around. Then it was back to Grandma's house so she could shorten Emili's snow pants. I said that I had wanted her snow pants ready by the time the "snow flys". Emili wanted to know what kind of flies are "snow flys"..... We had to explain that it isn't a bug; simply an expression. Today, we had to throw out the pumpkins that we carved a while ago. Emili said her goodbye's and off to the trash can they went.

Off to the old routine tomorrow again. Monday's are always long for me because I have to work all day and attend a class at night that doesn't get done until 7. I am gone from 7-8 on Monday's and always happy to be home. Well, Hasta manana!

Thursday... ahhhhhhhh. Today was good for several reasons. One, today was payday and two, today was the last day of the week for me and three.... Megan is leaving for a month... (just kidding Megan)... Megan is home tonight and stressing out about being gone for a month. She is going to visit my Aunt and her family in Japan and staying for a month. Emili got her flu shot today and you would have thought that I was committing murder dragging her into the clinic. She hid underneath my desk at work and I had to drag her out by her ankles and expose one of her arms. The nurse quickly stuck her with the flu vaccine and then she said "is that it??? Am I done??? Are you serious?" Now she is bragging to her friend, Hope, about how she got vaccinated today and how it didn't hurt".

I am off tomorrow. I took a vacation day. I have a lot to get done. Stupid reasons to take a vacation day, but Emili has a half day of school and my washer needs fixing.

In the morning, I have to take Emili to the bus and have some things to get at work. Then it is off to sleep for me for a little while. I am going to have a fun Friday night. My friend is coming up from Milwaukee and I am planning on having a good time. I have to pick Emili up from school and come back and babysit for a while and then the repair guy is coming to fix our washer. So, although I will be on vacation I have a lot to do. Well, hasta manana!
